Before the sun has risen over the East Bay hilltops, Tom Donovan is up enjoying a hot cup of coffee. By 6:00 am, he’s out the door to the gym, where a vigorous workout kick-starts his day. He’s home by 7:00 am, but his pace doesn’t slow down until his head hits the pillow at night. Whether he’s spending time with friends and family, devoting himself to local community efforts or working with his clients, Tom’s life is a continual quest to improve himself, the community around him and those he comes in contact with. And his passion is evident from the moment you meet him. “I view every day as an opportunity to learn, grow and impact people’s lives,” Tom says.
Tom grew up on a small farm in Iowa as one of eight children. He and his siblings were responsible for working on the farm at a young age, and those experiences instilled in Tom the strong values that have endured throughout his life – a strong work ethic, holding himself to high standards and most critically, the importance of doing what you say you’re going to do. Like his father and grandfather before him, Tom earned his bachelor’s degree and became a chiropractor, but not before accepting some sage advice from his grandfather. “He told me to go where I wanted to live and the rest would take care of itself,” Tom recalls. So off Tom went to California, where he built a thriving practice first in Moraga and later in Lafayette. He’s been a Bay Area resident since 1978 and grown more passionate about the area every year.
Tom cherished his ability to positively impact people’s lives as a health care provider, but true to his nature, he wanted even more out of life and his career. Always interested in real estate and the ability to bridge people’s lives from where they live to where they could thrive, Tom achieved his real estate license over a dozen years ago. He soon discovered how rewarding it was to help people on a personal level with such a critical time in their lives. He cut back his practice hours and devoted his time and effort to helping people make the most of their real estate opportunities.
One of Tom’s keys to success as a real estate professional is his understanding that no two people are alike. That’s why he makes an effort to connect with his clients to determine their goals, their motivations, their likes and dislikes.
